Those of you who have heard my first "Odd Music for Odd People" compilation will no doubt remember the Bob McFadden & Dor track "The Mummy". I've been tossing around the idea of animating it in Flash. So the last few weeks at our Sunday drawing sessions, I've been working on character designs. I'm pretty pleased with the Mummy, he's very nebbishy. I'm getting fairly close with the beatnik. I'll probably post some sketches of him on Sunday night. Posted by Hello

I've been told that this one looks like Christian...an assessment he vehemently disagrees with.  Posted by Hello

This spunky little 50s kid needs a name. I've been calling him Billy, but that's too overused. Anybody got a suggestion?

I just realized I forgot to draw the coinbox for this grocery store kiddy ride. D'oh! Posted by Hello

After reading a lot of Hellboy, I drew The Ghoul. She has a bit of a Tim Burton feel too. I like the style of the eyes. Maybe I should drawn her again, but when she was alive.  Posted by Hello

I've got the character design for Diety down. He's even wearing his Bozbot t-shirt (from TVs Riptide...created by Murray Bozinski). I've got to make that shirt for real. Anybody want one?

Now if one of us could just manage to capture Munki in caricature...there have been lots of attempts and some cool results, but they just weren't doing him justice. Posted by Hello

About a year ago, my group had an all day offsite meeting at the Visio building in downtown Seattle. The meeting was boring, but it gave me enough time to chronicle the highlights of my day. What a fantastic place...one side of the building faces Elliot Bay and the other faces the Space Needle. We were one of the last groups in the building before MS got rid of the property. I hate them for that.

But I'm quite pleased with this little exercise...I should try and do it again sometime. Anyone up for bringing the sketchbooks to Disneyland? Posted by Hello

Not quite as action packed as page one, but come on. Tell me that you wouldn't kill to have that view. Damn I want to work downtown. Posted by Hello

Before I dug out the photo of me at Disneyland with the highwater bellbottom jeans, I sketched this based on how I remembered the photo. I think I need to pursue this further. Illustrate my memories of Disneyland. Hmm. Posted by Hello

Sad coffee girl. But why is she sad? Has her lower half been melted away by the near nuclear heat of the coffee? Does she feel abandonded by society? Or maybe she's worried you'll notice the bubbles and know she's farted in her drink.

Angie wants me to make this into a shirt for her. Posted by Hello

Yeah...its weird. Here's the story. Angie and I saw a show on the history channel. They talked about men who had had their nose cut off in a sword duel...and that they could often be reattached. But the icky thing was that the doctor would clean the severed nose by peeing on it! After getting over the horror of never being able to get the smell of pee out of your nose, we pulled back around to pee being an essential doctors tool. How deeply deeply odd...but funny. :) From my sketchbook, dated 8/24/2004. Posted by Hello

Damn it Jenkins! Thanks to you I blew the Vermont deal! From a work sketchpad. Posted by Hello

For the next few days...

I'll be posting stuff that I'm fond of from my sketchbook. But with my drawing habits being what they are, this sketchbook was started in February of 1997 and is only a little over half full. The oldest thing I've got on deck to share with all of you is from three years ago. But I'll burn through the old stuff fairly quickly and the weekly drawing sessions and work sketchbooks should give me plenty to post going forward. And don't be shy...I want comments on this stuff!

And on this farm he had a SPEEP™. With a...Oh my God! Auggh! Eeek! Glurble! Posted by Hello

I've decided to call the Tiki Bar I'm going to build in the basement "The Drunken Monkey". The phrase popped up to describe a funny looking monkey toy we saw at the art store. And it was just the thing I'd been looking for.

I'm particularly pleased with the one on the left...though I did another version in a sketchpad at work and I think that's even better. Posted by Hello

This was my first attempt...definately a good starting point. Though as ususal, it's just a head. I'm glad that I'm in better practice and will draw full bodies. Posted by Hello
